Clean-Up of Homeless Encampment: The Pima County Court of Appeals, reversed an earlier Trial Court decision that said the City of Tucson was not responsible for cleaning up the Navajo Wash adjacent to the Hendrick Acres Neighborhood – a homeless encampment since 2019. With the Appeals Court reversal, the City is required to take steps to abate the public nuisance – remove the campers and clean the area. The City must also ensure that the area remains clear. This court decision creates the similar effect faced by the City of Phoenix in dealing with “The Zone” encampment at the end of 2023.
House Bill 2867: This bill, approved along party lines, would allow students (18 years of age and above)/parents to sue teachers personally over what they contend are antisemitic statements or actions. The bill, if passed, would impact teachers and schools statewide. However, as predicted, Governor Katie Hobbs vetoed the bill immediately.
