Many new Arizona laws go into effect January 1, 2025, including:

  • Arizona’s minimum wage goes up from $14.35/hr to $14.70/hr to align more closely with the cost of living
  • The Arizona Constitution now enshrines the right to abortion up to the point of fetal viability which is generally considered to be the 21st to 23rd week of pregnancy
  • The Transaction Privilege Tax (TPT) has been eliminated. The TPT was a tax on rent. As of January 1st, landlords will no longer charge that tax (which was 2.3% in Phoenix, for example)
  • Chefs cooking from their home kitchens will now be allowed to sell products made with meat if they register with the State Health Department and pass a food preparation course. Their products will need to be packaged and labeled with a disclaimer. Homemade tamales rule!
  • The many-faceted Immigration Enforcement Bill that was passed by the voters is under review and on hold for now. That law was based on a Texas law that the U.S. Supreme Court is examining to determine whether it is constitutional. Stay tuned.
